Now is the time to Make Money Online
There are a number of reasons that come to mind that support mastering making money online – no matter who you are or especially how old you are.
For example, today as I write this post, the two reasons, the prolonged pandemic and even bigger, the are potentially billions, yes billions of possible customers.
The ongoing pandemic is altering our world at an amazing rate. Every day more and more people are losing their jobs due to business closures. As a result, there is an increasing lack of available jobs, especially in highly affected market segments such as tourism. As many of these closed businesses will be unable to survive the pandemic financially, many will not re-open. This, in and of itself, highlights the need for many people to seriously undertake the process of reinventing themselves, and going online is a great place to focus on creating income.
This is or will be especially true for people over 50. Sally, the world has a long history of discriminating against people over 50, as if their hard-to-come-by experiences do not matter. With diminished employment opportunities, it will be harder and harder to find another job, but especially for this age group, even when the economy reopens.
Additionally many industries, such as tourism, restaurants, travel, etc. may take years to recover. This again will limit the number of available employment opportunities.
Now the world is not all doom and gloom.
There are a couple of great things to understand and remember:
1) Many people were and are extremely successful in downturns, even during the Depression. (Remember crisis = opportunity) and
2) There are significant potential opportunities available for anyone online.
Understand the Potential Customer Base
Current estimates indicate that there are approximately 4.33 billion Internet users around the world. Never before in the history of humanity has virtually anyone been able to potentially reach so many people, (and you don’t even have to leave your home – though by now, like me, I’m sure you’d love to!)
In contrast, just think if you are operating a retail store in your hometown. For the most part, your success is restricted to people coming through the front door, which many are doing more cautiously.
But, not with the Internet! You can reach out to virtually anyone, anywhere, at any time, and interact with them to increase your income.
You now have the potential, even sitting anywhere in the world, say lying on the beach in Hawaii or even home in your bathroom, to reach up to 4.33 billion people- especially if you know how and what to give them.
To make money, you have to give the right product to the right person, which therein lies the problem – which we will address in future posts.
Now, to be clear, you don’t have to reach all 4.33 billion people to be successful. With the right product or idea, it is possible to be extremely successful and profitable by only reaching out to a small, small fraction of Internet users.
There are lots of online opportunities and there are also many things you can do online to make money.
For example, you can:
- Create and sell a product;
- Sell other people’s products;
- Sell products through a third party like Amazon or other outlets.
- Create your own store on your own websites or via platforms like Shopify
- Write or market books via platforms like Kindle.
- Have someone write books for you and sell them on sites like Amazon Kindle.
- focus on “Affiliate marketing” for both physical and digital products where you advertise products and get a commission when someone buys the product. (Some affiliate marketing products pay significant commissions.)
- Create your own training or other digital products and market them online.
- Etc.

Skill sets you’re going to need to learn
To transition and master online commerce, you are going to have to learn and master some skills which may be new to you. These include:
- Online marketing,
- Copywriting,
- websites
- search engine optimization,
- if you sell on Amazon, you’re going to have to understand how that platform works
- if you advertise on Facebook, you’re going to have to understand how their platform works
- if you do marketing you have to understand how to do both free and paid advertising and also platforms like Instagram, twitter etc.
Please understand, that it is not always necessary that you master any of these areas. It may be possible that you can hire someone or collaborate with people to do many tasks mentioned above.
Another obstacle you may come up against is that in many ways as the internet is relatively new, the rules can seem to change regularly especially with Google, Amazon, and Facebook.
On a personal note, a couple of the biggest obstacles I came up against in this process have been two things: a) information overload b) not knowing if I could trust the quality of information that I was reviewing.
The first is obvious. with point 2, one of the problems online is that many people selling products in reality have limited business or even world experience. All too often the individual was in the right place, at the right time the right idea which they may have even copied from someone else. All to often, they may be good salespeople but their back office will be awful.
Because they are selling a product online doesn’t make them good businesspeople. I learned some of this the hard way. I’ve invested in courses that cost thousands of dollars which turned out to be garbage.
We don’t want you to fall into this trap.
